MR16 lamps are reflector lamps with a compact format and strong, directed light beams. They are mainly used in spotlights, ceiling lighting and accent lighting. The base type is GU5.3 and the lamp is usually powered by 12V via a transformer, but there are also 230V variants.

MR stands for “Multifaceted Reflector” and 16 indicates the diameter of the lamp in eighths of an inch, which corresponds to 50 mm. The reflector has several facets that spread the light evenly and focused.
MR16 usually requires a transformer for 12V operation, while GU10 is connected directly to 230V. Choose MR16 if you already have a low-voltage system, GU10 if you are installing a new one on mains voltage.
