How to Choose the Right LED Ramp

October 14, 2025

An LED ramp is by far the most popular way to upgrade your high beam today. It provides fantastic performance, a modern look and is relatively easy to install. The huge selection can make choosing difficult. What size fits my car? Should I have a straight or curved ramp? And what do “combo” and “spot” actually mean?

Don't worry, we're here to help. As experts, we've helped thousands of customers find the perfect LED light bar. In this guide, we break down the most important decisions into simple, understandable steps so you can feel completely confident that you're choosing the right product for your ride.

Step 1: The most important choice: The right lighting for your roads

The light pattern is the most important factor in how you will experience your new light. It determines how the light from the ramp is spread onto the road.

Driving Beam / Combo Beam

This is by far the most common and versatile light pattern, and the one we recommend to 9 out of 10 drivers. A combo ramp is designed to provide the best of both worlds:

Length: A strong, focused core of light in the center that illuminates the path far ahead of you.

Width: At the same time, it spreads a rich and even light to the sides, illuminating the roadsides and ditches.

Who should choose Combo Beam?

You who drive on varied Swedish roads – from country roads and motorways to winding forest roads. This light image gives you the total overview you need to detect dangers in time, whether it's a moose 500 meters ahead on the road or a deer on its way out of the ditch.

Spot Beam (Focused/long beam)

A Spot light pattern is designed for one purpose: maximum reach. It concentrates all the light into a narrow, extremely far-reaching beam.

Who should choose Spot Beam?

You who almost exclusively drive on long, straight roads with good visibility to the sides, for example in the interior of Norrland. If your only goal is to see as far ahead as humanly possible, then a spot-ramp is the right choice. For most others, however, it can feel like driving in a tunnel, with too little light to the sides.

Step 2: Find the perfect size: Length and height

Once you know what light pattern you need, it's time to choose the size. This affects both performance and how the ramp will look on your car.

What length should I have?

  • approx. 20 inches (50-56 cm): The gold standard. A 20-inch ramp is about the same width as a license plate and is perfect for mounting above or flush-mounted below it on most passenger cars (Volvo, VW, Audi, etc.). It provides a huge upgrade to the high beam in a stylish and proportionate format.
  • approx. 30 inches (75-85 cm): A step up in size and performance. A 30-inch ramp is ideal for larger vehicles such as SUVs (e.g. Volvo XC90), pickups (e.g. Amarok/Hilux) and vans. It fills out a larger grill and provides an even more powerful light output.
  • 40 inches and up (100+ cm): The largest ramps, primarily intended for roof mounting on SUVs, pickup trucks, or for mounting in the front of heavy trucks.

Single Row (Single Row) or Double Row (Double Row)?

This is about the height of the ramp.

  • Single row (Slim): The modern and most popular design. Gives a very discreet and elegant impression, perfect for recessed mounting. Thanks to modern technology, a single row ramp today can perform just as well as an older double row.

  • Double Row: Gives a more aggressive and robust look. Often has a higher theoretical lumen output thanks to double rows of diodes. Can be a good choice if you prioritize maximum light output over a discreet design.

Step 3: Design and aesthetics – Straight or curved?

The final piece of the puzzle is the shape of the ramp.

Straight: The classic and timeless design that is easy to install and fits all types of vehicles.

Curved: Features a slight bend designed to follow the contours of a modern, rounded car front. This gives a more integrated and “factory-fitted” look. The curved shape also helps spread the light a little wider in the immediate area.

Summary: Checklist for choosing the right one

  • Start with the light pattern: For most people, Combo/Driving Beam is the obvious choice.
  • Choose the length according to your car: about 20 inches for passenger cars, about 30 inches for larger SUVs/pickups.
  • Choose a design: Single row (Slim) for a modern and discreet look, double row for a more aggressive look. Curved (Curved) to match a rounded front.
