Guide: How to choose the right lighting for your construction machine

Choosing the right lamp is all about understanding the technical requirements. Here are the three most important points you need to keep in mind.

1. IP rating: Can it really withstand a beating?

This is the most important factor. The IP rating indicates how well a lamp is protected against dust and water. For a construction environment, anything below IP67 is unthinkable.

IP68: Completely dustproof and can withstand prolonged immersion in water. A must for most applications.

IP69K: The highest rating. Guarantees that the lamp can withstand high-pressure washing with hot water. For machines that are washed regularly, this is a requirement for long-term durability.

2. EMC rating: Avoid interference to the radio and GPS

All electronics create electromagnetic interference. A cheap, poorly shielded LED light can interfere with your radio, GPS or other sensitive electronics on your machine. Always choose a light with a high EMC rating (e.g. ECE R10 or CISPR25 class 3-5). This is your guarantee that the lighting is professionally designed and will not cause expensive and annoying interference.

3. The right light for the right task

Work light (Flood): Should provide a wide, even light to illuminate the entire immediate area around the machine. A “Flood” light pattern of 60-120 degrees is ideal.

Additional light (Spot/Combo): To illuminate longer distances when transporting on dark roads. Here, an LED ramp with a combo light pattern is an excellent choice.

Warning lights (360°): To be seen from all directions. A roof-mounted juicer or strobe light bar is often a requirement.
