Necessary adapter wiring for Mercedes MRA2

This adapter cable is required to install a standard XBB Dongle® on car models based on Mercedes' new MRA2 platform. On these vehicles, connecting the XBB Dongle® via the car's traditional diagnostic socket (OBD2) will not work.

Instead, the device must be connected directly to the vehicle's internal CAN bus network. Recipes and installation information for these models can be found under PP-CAN.

Advanced installation – recommended for workshop

This type of installation is significantly more advanced than a standard XBB Dongle® installation. Intervening in the vehicle's CAN network requires the right tools, the correct method and good knowledge of automotive electronics.

We therefore strongly recommend that the installation be carried out by an experienced vehicle bodybuilder or authorized car repair shop.

Important – requirements for the correct hardware version

For the adapter wiring to work, the correct hardware version of XBB Dongle® is required.

In addition to this adapter cable (Art. no.: IDAB-2025-0113-1), your device must support CAN-FD. This is available from the hardware model:

XBB Dongle 2 (XBB-Dongle-2)

This version has been manufactured and delivered since June 2024.

You can check which version you have via the app:
Settings → About XBB Dongle → The model should be XBB-Dongle-2.
