Warning lights are divided into two main types based on how the light is spread. Directional flash light pulsates in one or more directions and is mounted on the vehicle – commonly in grills, rear windows and on bumpers. Colors and uses
Orange/amber is the most common color and is used for roadworks, vehicle inspection, wide loads and general warning. Legal to use on all vehicles in Sweden without special permission. Blue colour is reserved for emergency vehicles such as ambulances, police and fire brigades. Green used by healthcare personnel and emergency services during operations.
Choosing the right warning light
Do you need to be visible from all sides? Choose one flashlight ramp or juice blender with ceiling mounting. Do you need a discreet warning that doesn't stand out when the lights are off? Choose directional flash light which is mounted in the grill. Temporary use? Portable warning lights with magnet can be assembled and disassembled in seconds.
ECE R65 is a European standard that ensures a warning light meets specific requirements for light intensity, colour, beam angle and flash rate. An R65-approved light is a requirement for use on vehicles performing work on public roads. It is your guarantee that the product is professional and legal.
Class 1 (TA1/TB1) is the standard for night work. Class 2 (TA2/TB2) is a higher classification that has both a day and a night mode. Class 2 lights have a much higher light intensity in the day mode to be seen effectively in bright sunlight. For most professions working around the clock, Class 2 is recommended.
To achieve 360-degree visibility, which is often a requirement, a minimum of four flashing lights is recommended - two to the front and two to the rear, or one in each corner of the vehicle. Feel free to add units on the sides for maximum safety.
For general road use, a single or double flash pattern is standard and usually the most effective. More complex patterns can be useful to attract extra attention in specific situations, but a calm and clear flash is usually best to avoid confusing other road users.
